November is Fall Prevention Month (FPM) and Seniors’ Fall Prevention Awareness Week takes place in the first week of November. Falls are the leading injury-related cause of hospitalization and death for older adults 65 years and above in B.C.
Most Falls are predictable and preventable. Fall prevention should focus on promoting independence and activity, and include the older adults and their networks of support. FPM is an annual call to encourage organizations and individuals to come together for a coordinated fall prevention campaign.
The mission of FPM is raising awareness about the importance of reducing falls and fall-related injuries and engaging communities for collaboration to improve health and safety of older adults.
